The largest national park area in France, and the only one with settlement in the central protected area, the Cévennes National Park covers some 3200 sq.km in the Gard, Lozère and Ardèche. It is a UNESCO-listed world biosphere reserve. Its natural heritage is outstanding (50% of French animal and plant biodiversity in less than 0.5% of French national territory). It also protects local cultural and landscape heritage and ensures sustainable development in its rural communities.

The National Park is also concerned about the quality of touristic supply and has therefore signed the European charter for sustainable development in protected areas.
