It is a UNESCO-listed world biosphere reserve. Its natural heritage is outstanding (50% of French animal and plant biodiversity in less than 0.5% of French national territory). It also protects local cultural and landscape heritage and ensures sustainable development in its rural communities.
The National Park is also concerned about the quality of touristic supply and has therefore signed the European charter for sustainable development in protected areas.
